Sanctuary Laws are About Local Control

Sanctuary laws aim to protect some of the most vulnerable members of the community, particularly immigrants. As integral members of society, their well-being is essential to the overall health of the community.

These laws also emphasize maintaining local control over law enforcement and protecting citizens from potential misuse by federal forces enforcing laws that may not align with the community’s values. Local control of the police force is crucial for several reasons related to community welfare, responsiveness, and democratic principles.

Thomas Synder, author of On Tyranny, warns us that one of the dangerous warning signs of tyranny is police being control by outside forces.

• “Be reflective if you must be armed. If you carry a weapon in public service, may God bless you and keep you. But know that evils of the past involved [police officers] and soldiers finding themselves, one day, doing irregular things. Be ready to say no.”

Here are key reasons why local control matters:

• Democratic Republic: Local police forces are vital for maintaining safe and secure communities, thereby contributing to the robustness of a democratic republic.

• Effective Relationships: The effectiveness of policing is heavily reliant on strong relationships with the public and the ability to work collaboratively to resolve crime-related issues.

• Accountability: Local control allows for accountability measures tailored to the community's specific needs. Civilian oversight boards, for example, can be established locally to review police conduct and policies.

Immigrants are Not Committing More Crime

Editor Notes:  Are we truly focused on reducing crime, addressing immigration, or simply stoking fear? If the goal is to lower crime rates, then the attention should be on those statistically committing more offenses—native-born citizens—rather than scapegoating immigrants. Grievance with Trump and the Republican Party

The follow is my list of the grievances I have with President Trump and the Republican party.  1. Executive Overreach President Trump has asserted direct control over areas traditionally and constitutionally reserved for Congress. He uses executive orders as de facto legislation, directing agencies to implement the President’s personal agenda and not an agenda that is beneficial for the country.
